When I put together my Friday YouTube videos, I’m often focussing on books in a particular category that I would recommend people read.

Books that don’t fit into a specific category, or those that I do not recommend, end up slipping through the cracks and never again see the light of day.

So, I created this small 6-part video series to give some air-time to the books I don’t talk about.

But with that out of the way, let’s crack on with Part 4 of the books which I don’t really talk about.

I should warn you that a lot of the books in this post are ones that I didn’t particularly like, nor rate very highly.

That said, I’ll try not to make this post too negative.

1 – “I Don’t Work Fridays” by Martin Norbury (Proven strategies to scale your business and not be a slave to it)

I don’t agree that this book delivered on its title and what it was trying to teach. For me, the book was just Martin Norbury’s life story. So, if you want to know about his life, read this book!

I think the author tried to weave his business lessons around his own life story to try to make the book a more entertaining read. However, I felt that the book was more about Norbury’s life than it was about the lessons of scaling a business.

If you do want a good read that does tell you exactly how to scale up a business, I recommend you check out “Scale Up Millionaire” by Gordon McAlpine. This is a great book, especially if you have (or are part of) a direct sales team.

2 – “The 10 Pillars of Wealth” by Alex Becker (Mindsets of the world’s richest people)

Now, this book is actually okay. It does have some useful content and value, but essentially, it’s just a generic personal development book.

I would only recommend this book to those that are new to personal development. However, if you’ve been studying personal development for some time, then it’s highly unlikely that you will get anything new from this book.

3 – “All Marketers Are Liars” by Seth Godin (The power of telling authentic stories in a low trust world)

Firstly, let’s make it clear that this book does not teach you how to lie in your marketing! Instead, it teaches you how to paint a picture so that the customer lies to themselves.

For example, if a TV commercial shows a beautiful woman applying a certain brand of face cream, your subconscious mind immediately tells you that if you were to use that face cream, you would have the same perfect skin as that beautiful woman.

Now, although deep down we know that’s not true, it’s still a lie that we subconsciously tell ourselves and this book teaches you how to create those same pictures in your own marketing.

Overall, it’s a good book and I did like it. I don’t talk about it much simply because I did find it a bit dry and hard to read in places.

4 – “How To Get What You Want In Seven Weeks” by Julie Probino (The journey to rediscovering your authentic self)

This isn’t a bad book, but again it is a general, generic personal development book that I found rather weak on content.

That said, the book is quite practical and actionable; since it revolves around a seven-week timescale the book gives you a steady stream of tasks to complete each week.

But as with “The 10 Pillars of Wealth” above, unless you’re new to personal development, it’s unlikely that you will learn anything new from this book.

5 – “6 Months To 6 Figures” by Peter Voogd (The fastest way to go from where you are to where you want to be regardless of the economy)

To be blunt, I didn’t like this book for two reasons.

Firstly, this is (yet again) just another generic personal development book.

Secondly, the title is very misleading. The author is not teaching you how to do what the title claims at all. There is no content in the book about how to make money or about entrepreneurship. Instead, the book is all about personal development and creating positive habits.

Although I agree that mindset and personal development are important if you want to be successful in business and make money, there are still specific steps and actions that you need to take if you want to increase your income and wealth – especially if you want to go from zero to six figures in a super-short timeframe such as six months! And the book contains no such content on actually how to do that.
