We’re all fully aware of the generic activities of marketing which include things such as Facebook advertising, banner advertising, email marketing, social media marketing, pay-per-click, etc.

But in this post, I’m focusing on marketing hacks; techniques that help your business grow faster at a lower cost.

If that sounds like something you are interested in, then here are my 3 favorite books that will help you hack marketing.

In no particular order…

#1 “Growth Hacker Marketing” by Ryan Holiday (A primer on the future of PR, marketing, and advertising)

Although this is only a quick-read book (you could get through it in one afternoon) it is still very valuable.

The book describes what growth hacker marketing is and then gives you some tools to help you to find your own growth hack that you can implement into your website and/or business.

If you still struggle to identify a growth hack that would work for you after reading the first part of the book, the author also includes lots of examples in the back of the book about other companies and the various growth hacks that they have implemented. You can then use these examples in your own business.

This is a very simple book that contains plenty of valuable and actionable tips.

#2 “Contagious” by Jonah Berger (How to build word of mouth in the digital age)

I love this book, and I gave it my top rating of 10/10!

The book is all about how things catch on. For example, how does a product that is picked up by early adopters then filter through to the rest of the market? Why do some TV advertising catchphrases stick in your mind and others don’t?

Well, this book uncovers all.

This book shows you how to achieve the “word of mouth” effect in digital marketing and how to make something “contagious.”

#3 “Hooked” by Nir Eyal (How to build habit-forming products)

This book is all about how to create products that have your customers returning voluntarily.

You don’t need to keep sending emails, special offer incentives, or other temptations to encourage people to come back; they just return of their own accord.

Examples are Instagram, Facebook, Candy Crush Saga, etc. Once you’re “hooked” you log into these applications multiple times a day. They create an itch that you just have to scratch.

To create these habit-forming products, the book identifies the key elements needed and teaches you how to implement those important traits into your own product so that people keep coming back.

Although I think that the first two sections of the book are pretty much common sense, it’s the final part of the “hooked method” that I found really valuable.
