What’s How to be F*cking Awesome about?

In a nutshell, this is a personal development/business book that errs more on the personal development side.

So, even if you don’t run a business and you’re not an entrepreneur, you can still get value from this book, BUT it is pretty basic when it comes to the quality of content.

Off-putting introduction …

In the introduction section of the book, the author states that his book is effectively an amalgamation of what he’s learned from reading several other self-development books.

At first, I was disappointed, thinking that I had just wasted my money on a book that contained information that I had already read elsewhere (since I read a LOT of books).

That said, Dan has also added some of his own self-development tips. For me, the tips contained in the productive chapter of book were particularly helpful and I picked up some useful ideas that I hadn’t come across before, so it wasn’t a total loss!

Overall impression

Even though I did take away a few useful ideas and tips from the book, it’s really just another run-of-the-mill personal development book.

If you’ve already read a lot of these types of books and you prefer something that has plenty of scientific evidence to back up the author’s theories, then this is probably not a book that you would enjoy or get any value from.

The reaction to the book when I shared it on my Instagram was mixed. Some people loved it and found it extremely helpful, whereas others didn’t like Dan’s style, finding him rather immature and quite laddish.

I do agree with other people’s comments about the way that Dan comes across, and there is a lot of profanity in this book, but you probably guessed that from the title. So, if you’re offended by that, this is perhaps not the best choice of self-help book for you.

Because of the book’s conversational tone, I think it translates well to an audiobook format. Dan narrates the book himself, which works well with pacing and tonality. That said, if I read the print version of the book, I think I may have found the information it contains rather too basic to keep me engaged, but as an audiobook, it was an easy listen.

Looking for some positives…

One great thing about this book is that at the end of each chapter the author has included actionable content. Actionable content provides the reader with a step by step guide on how to implement the points and advice he has given the reader in the preceding chapter. I stand by my opinion when I say that ALL personal development books need to have actionable content.

Another aspect of this audiobook that I really like is that it’s not too long, and it is a light listen because of the conversational tone in which the book is written. That makes this book a good introduction for those who are new to audiobooks and personal development.

Only available through Audible

Another thing to note is that if you want to listen to this in audiobook format, then it’s only available through Amazon Audible.

How To Be F*cking Awesome

How to be F*cking Awesome is a basic personal development book. As you may have guessed from the title, it does contain profanity and the author can come across as quite immature and laddish. However, if that doesn't bother you, the audiobook is a short and easy listen which would make a great introduction for those who are new to personal development and/or audiobooks.

  1. I have not read the book, but I was wondering if you enjoyed the cussing in the book. The author sounds like Mark Manson, and I was wondering what author you like more if you have read Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck.

    1. I’ve just finished reading Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and recorded my review for it. (It should be out in the next few weeks).

It’s hard to compare both books since they cover different topics. But if I had to choose, I prefer Mark Manson’s book. I think it has a much deeper message, although there was wayyyy too many f*cks in the introduction!! Dan Meridith’s book is ok and is a general personal development/entrepreneurship books.
