The first thing that I’m going to say about this book is that, despite the title, “Mindset with Muscle,” I found the content very weak and very basic.

I would only recommend this audiobook to those of you who are completely new to personal development and are just beginning to learn about these principles.

Confusing title?

Now, from the title, it’s not altogether clear what this book is about. But with the words ‘Muscle’ and ‘Mindset’, one would assume that it was about strengthening your mindset.

I also know that Jamie Alderton works in the personal fitness industry, so the ‘Muscle’ part of the title made a bit more sense.

However, after listening to the book, I can reveal that the book is not about that at all! Instead, the main bulk of the content is about building habits.

You could argue that mindset and habits are intertwined, as in order to have good habits you need to have a good mindset and vice versa. But that can be said about anything to do with business, personal development, and entrepreneurship – it’s all intertwined.

But, every element of each topic, such as mindset, habits, productivity, etc, is a separate entity and should be treated as such. Therefore, I would say that the title does not reflect the content of the book.

Brief …

The second point that I would make is that this is a very short audiobook at just over two hours duration.

I have no problem with short audio or hardcopy books. In truth, I much prefer if the author can give me direct and useful information that I can implement, rather than wasting my time with waffle.

However, after the first 20 minutes of this book, the only information that was revealed was the author’s life story, and the only bit of helpful life advice was to ‘make notes’!

Get into the habit

So, the main bulk of the content in the book was about the importance of forming habits. That’s great! I agree with everything that the author said. But it was extremely basic.

Pale imitation?

A few months ago, I reviewed the audiobook “How to Be F*cking Awesome” by Dan Meredith.

I feel that “Mindset with Muscle” was put together in very much the same way as Dan Meredith’s book. The only difference is that Jamie’s book doesn’t contain profanity, whereas Dan Meredith’s does. Other than that, they sound very similar.

You could switch their voices around and I wouldn’t have noticed the difference!

Overall thoughts

Although this isn’t essentially a bad book, it is very basic.

It’s not about mindset, it’s about habit forming, and much of the content is really just common sense.

Overall, I was disappointed and feel like this book has been produced ‘for the sake of producing a book’, rather than because the author had something important to share.
