I feel as though this book is titled incorrectly. (Although, in saying that, I have no idea what else they could have called it.)

From the current title and cover, you would assume that the book is about your one most important task that you need to complete each day. This is the task that’s going to have to most impact and get you to where you want to be.

And you would be correct. That principle is in the book.

The authors teach you how to find your most important task, how to schedule for that task, and how to make sure it gets completed.

But…there is so much more to this book than just “The One Thing” …and I wrote a list.

This book also includes:

  • How to increase your productivity
  • How to increase your effectiveness
  • How to get the most out of your time
  • How to manage your willpower throughout the day (I found this chapter fascinating)
  • How to manage work-life balance (I loved this chapter also and found it very well-written and explained)
  • How to set goals
  • General life lessons e.g. how to get the most out of your life, live with no regrets, and live a large life.

To me, this book is more of a life bible.

It’s telling you everything that you need to know in order to have a well-rounded life, live to the fullest, and achieve your maximum potential in business, travel, your relationships, or wherever your priorities lie.

Therefore, I find this book to be so much more than just finding your one thing.

An interesting read

I managed to read this book on a plane flying back to the UK from Croatia.

I was in the aisle seat of a Ryanair flight and the other two ladies sat in my row were making the most of their last holiday moments, drinking numerous mini-bottles of wine and generally having a whale of a time.

You know a book is easy to read, engaging and interesting, when you can sit and read it next to two loud ladies getting pissed whilst in a confined space!

The small touches

Throughout the book, there were numerous quotes, usually at the beginning of each chapter.

If you’ve read a few of my other blog posts and book reviews, you’ll know that I am a huge lover of quotes. In this book, I found the quotes enhanced the topics and subjects that the authors were explaining, as well as aid my own understanding.

I also took pleasure from the design of the book, including the key sentences that had been underlined.

I purchased this book second-hand from Amazon and, at first, I thought that the underlining was done by a previous user. It wasn’t until later in the book when I realized that the underlining was in the print.

Overall, I found the underlining to be a nice feature that emphasized the important points throughout.

Who is this book for?

This book is for anyone who wants to get more out of their life, you don’t have to be self-employed or run a business, you’ll get just as much value out of this book if you are an employee.

My overall thoughts

“The One Thing” was a pleasure to read and gave me so much more than the title suggested.

The book is well-written and explained some very difficult concepts (including the work-life balance) with ease. I found the book inspiring, motivational, and at times, fascinating.

There are a few concepts in the book that I hadn’t heard of before but that I could 100% relate to.

A 10/10 book for sure!

  1. That’s awesome. I have read good reviews of this book, and my plan is to read it this summer.

    1. It’s a great book! One of the first books I managed to read fully from front to back and which got me into non-fiction books. It opened my eyes to how little I actually know and how much I have to learn.
      I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
